However, there is one major shortcoming associated with translucent finish. The shortcoming is that uneven pigmentation is much easier to achieve in the final work. Unevenness in the pigmentation tends to occur mostly in objects that are irregularly shaped. Variations in thickness of up to a half a millimeter can be observed. It is also possible to use a base coat in the same way that undercoats are used in conventional liquid painting.

Base coats assist in attaining uniformity, especially when the surface coloring is un-uniform. May individuals prefer translucent finishes since they have impressive brightness that outweighs many other finishes. This brightness preferably suits well on surfaces made of stainless steel.
